After 11 glorious years at Manchester United, Wayne Rooney is being continuously criticized by the media for having one or two bad games. Wayne Rooney had a goal disallowed for an inexistent offside in yesterday’s game against Newcastle, but this did not change the media’s headlines criticizing our number 10 instead of focusing on his disallowed goal which cost us two important points.

Wayne has admitted that he had a disappointing game against Aston Villa, but he also said that there will always be good and bad matches in every player’s career. Louis van Gaal has praised Rooney for being honest and admitting that he was below par in the game but believes that Wayne Rooney will reach top form again in the near future.

He has to admit he was bad and then he can improve. When you don’t admit, you can’t improve.

Van Gaal also showed his anger at the media for criticizing Wayne Rooney’s lone striker position, after having the media criticizing the manager for not playing him in that position last year.

All the media has written for one year that I have to put him in the striker’s position. It’s amazing that after two games you’re doubting your own opinions, I cannot understand that.

Wayne Rooney joined Manchester United from Everton in 2004 for £25.6 million, the highest fee ever paid for an under 20 year old player, scoring a hat-trick on his debut against Fenerbache  He has since scored 230 goals for the club, being the third top all time scorer for Manchester United after Sir Bobby Charlton (249 goals) and Dennis Law (237 foals).

Rooney has helped Manchester United win a bunch of trophies since his arrival, including 5 Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2008.
